Do you watch\ndocumentaries?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I know, we only\nwatch documentary channels in our homes. None of us watch series, entertainment\nshows or game shows. We always have documentary channels on our TV at home as\nwell as in our workplace. At other times, we watch news channels. I’m not\nasking for the times when the above-mentioned programs which you do not watch\naccidentally appear on your TV. I’m asking for the times when you actually\nwatch documentaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I have always\nloved and continue to love documentaries about the wild, factories and\nproduction, history of some big brands and historical wars. I couldn’t like\nthose about oceans, seas and aqua life much. As I observed the flora in detail\nwhenever I went somewhere during the day, I began to be curious about the\ndocumentaries addressing that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We all surely\npay attention to the flora of our location, knowingly or not. This must be an\ninstinctive, defensive reflex in mankind. It must be a behavior that we need in\norder to get to know about the surroundings, to understand and to know what\nthings there are in where we are located.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Flora is surely\nnot limited to the trees, flowers, weed patterns and other plants we see\naround. Most of us probably examine what kind of fruits, vegetables and grain\ngrow in our location. Especially when we travel to a new place, how many of us\ndidn’t taste the fruits and vegetables that place is most famous for. I always\nvisit a grocery store or some place that sells fruits and vegetables. Sometimes\nI even return from my trip with fruits and vegetables belonging to that area in\nmy luggage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Have you ever\nthought about the significance of three life forms in shaping the world? We all\nknow that in the order of significance this would be firstly mankind, secondly\nanimals and finally plants. I considered that from an opposite perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In every region\nin the world, life is changed by the climate and the flora that depends on that\nclimate. Animal species that are compatible with that area depending on the\nflora are able to live, the other species cannot. Mankind made the best as the\nsmartest species, he arranged the area to suit him rather than adapting to the\narea he is located. He surely couldn’t affect the climate or change the overall\nflora, but worked to transport a plant to another area which the plant can\nadapt to. He even transported plants that grow in very different areas to other\nareas where he thought they would be compatible with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Beginning from\nthe first moment of life, basic needs have been food, shelter and protection\/security.\nNeeds related to nutrition were fulfilled with animals and vegetables readily\nobtained from nature, however, sometime later, methods were developed for using\nthe flora properly in order to ensure continuity of food and to make up for\nshortages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Briefly,\nagriculture first began as mankind transported, managed and controlled plants\nand continued to this day. Today agriculture is made using very different\ntechnologies and first of all the tools and equipment used in agriculture have\nchanged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Previously made\nwith human labor, it began to be made with machinery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Natural\nmaterials such as fertilizers have been used for faster growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pesticides have\nbeen used for eliminating factors that could cause harm on the crops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At later stages,\nartificial additives began to be used for obtaining products faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today we are\ndiscussing genetically modified plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the past\nOccupational Safety and Health in agriculture meant accidents while using the\nvehicles, hurting each other with hand tools, falling, or accidents such as\ntree branches falling on people when they are cut. In later stages, the damages\nof sprays used against pests in agriculture on human health, proper usage of\nagricultural machinery, etc. began to be discussed, however, the rates of occurrence\nwere limited in all these and therefore OHS in agriculture didn’t become a\nsubject of hot debate. The number of people who really cared about the farmers,\nvillagers and workers employed in the agricultural area was quite low too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But when\ngenetically modified food began to be discussed, we all suddenly became an\nexpert. And we began to discuss the matter only from the perspective that\nrelated to us. We didn’t discuss about the health of the agricultural\nemployees, but about the impacts of agricultural products on consumers’ health.\nWhereas, we all need to discuss about occupational safety and health in every\nareas related to agriculture and to come up with solutions. All segments must\nshow the same sensitivity and authorities must convene and create a common\nsolution as it happens in all other areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We have seen\nsignificant changes in Occupational Safety and Health in our country for the\nlast 5 years. Starting with laws, awareness of Occupational Safety and Health\nin our country is increasing ever more as new regulations are introduced,\nseveral items are updated and missing items are completed. Together with\nincreasing level of awareness, the measures taken are also increasing in risky\nlines of business. Step by step, this process moves on towards the less risky\nareas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When we talk\nabout occupational safety and health, we first think of measures to be taken by\nthe employer. Even though I agree, I’d also like to remind that the process of\nthe employer taking measures is actually driven by the employees. The employee\nmust know that he needs to request measures related to occupational safety and\nhealth and to follow the rules for his\/her own good. I’m sure both legislators\nand inspectors are aware that in our country, a paradise for organizations\nwhich were founded without or with a very limited amount of capital and have no\nresources other than their operating income, it is impossible to expect\nbusinesses to take all measures completely. Considering this situation, both\nthe employers and the employees are required to hold their end of the bargain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today there is\nno enterprise where we don’t hear the term “teamwork”. Teamwork is\ntaught even at schools. We are subjecting our children to special training so\nthey play with other kids in harmony, we take them to pedagogues and we try to\nimprove them personally. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
While teamwork\nis mentioned everywhere, the lack of it when it comes to occupational safety\nand health makes no sense to me. I believe that doing teamwork instead of\nacting as parties with regard to occupational safety and health is mandatory. I\nthink any alternative other than teamwork will be insufficient for a permanent\nsolution in terms of development in occupational safety and health as in all\nareas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The actual\nchange in occupational safety and health in our country must come about with\n“teamwork”.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
