Occupational\nSafety is the first thing that spring to mind in the\u201d Occupational Safety and\nHealth\u201d definition in most of country in the world. The occupational health\nside is not come to mind except the most developed regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Personal\nProtective Equipment” is the first thing come to mind when we talk about\n“Occupational Safety and Health” If we evaluate the Occupational\nSafety and Health as a profession or as a person that interest particularly, we\nhave entered into a non-terminal area. But for a non-professional person, the\nfirst description is Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Being the\nfirst thing that come to mind is quite normal for PPE’s, because PPE are at the\nheart of occupational safety. Today, in a very simple structure work, repair\nwork or a technical process usage of personal protective equipment save lives.\nI do not have any statistical data, but \u0131 am sure that the ratio of saved life\nand prevented potential injury is quite high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Almost all\nof us know or heard about someone who have an occupational accident. Deaths and\ninjuries as a result of electric shock…<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Deaths and\ninjuries in construction…<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Deaths and\ninjuries during any operation…<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To be\nbrief, we all live the consequences of accidents experienced in doing business\nin our constantly environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However the\nseamiest thing of this death and\/or injuries is disuse of Personal Protective Equipment.\nThe Personal Protective Equipment is not using because of “Nothing would\nhappen to me” logic and post-haste jobs unfortunately. Of course there is\na “adolescence” issue. There is a obsession of lose of adolescence\nwhen they use PPE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But\nunfortunately, “nothing would happen to me”, “adolescence”\nand “post-haste jobs” do not protect us from the accidents. And\nunfortunately as a consequence people lose their lives, become out of function\nfor rest of their life, and they condemn their selves to an unhappy life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is a\neasy way to get rid of this… Using Personal Protection Equipment…<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In our\nconversations with my employer friends especially employers that in high risk\narea of business in our country, I realize that their biggest complaint is\nbeing unable to force to use the personal protective equipment to staff.. It is\nnot avoid of supplying or not to make them use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Employees\nare resisting the use of PPE;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I can\nnot work comfortable with Helmet”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Boots\nis preventing me to move freely, it is heavy”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Gloves\nwith tools as comfortable as I can not use bare hands”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Mask\nmake me sweat\u2026 I feel strange with it”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These are\ndescriptions of the resistance, defenses, excuses…<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yes, it is\nnot difficult to understand these. Many of them have basis. You can work more\ncomfortable without PPE. It is impossible to not acknowledge workers to be\nright. But when the issue comes to life, not to comfortable working, where’s\nthe harm of work with a little uncomfortable…!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We need to\nexplain it better. We need to provide a better training for it. Telling the spiritual\nside of the work should be used instead of technical data to provide motivate\nof the usage. They should be motivated with telling that what they could lose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Also there\nis some important issues that manufacturers should be thinking;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
PPE\nmanufacturers need to shape their works on this issue to ease of use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They should\nfocus on producing practical products and ease of use products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They should\nadd aesthetics to products that they produce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
About\naesthetic… The helmets that I saw in our exhibition made me so happy. In our\nstand firm that i am found in employer position, when I saw that they are\nactually a helmet I really like the baseball caps placed by my co-workers. My\nco-workers also were using them relishingly. They were dressed in stylish\nprotective shoes. it was really gratifying to see a subject which troubles us\nfor a long time to see such a simple way to resolve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The main\nthing is using the Personal Protective Equipment and increase the usage awareness.\nThe task is fall to all of us. Not only employers or PPE manufacturers all of\nus are responsible to raise awareness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
